Lost permissions on c:\ Windows 2008 R2
Hi Guys. I asked one of my technicans to hide a c:\ drive in group policy (terminal server). Instead they configured file permissions through File System in group policy. What has happened is permissions have been removed from c: I can get to c:\ windows, but getting access denied everywhere. I have admin access to this server. Cannot run secedit as I am getting an error about being unable to open sdb file. Suggestions?

If the only object is to get access to your C:\, you could take ownership of that folder... Right click C:\ -> Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Owner. Change your GPO accordingly, change ownership back.

What happends when you try? Can you see who is the current owner on the folder/drive?

Cannot see owner. When I try to take ownership I get the following: "Can't open access control editor. Access denied"

We ended up formatting as I could not work out a way around this. The machine wasn't in production yet, so it was an easy solution. Cheers.
